Student Events Portfolio - Semester Reflection

Hi Huron! This will be my last blog post as your Vice President of Student Events so I want to start by saying thank you to everyone that has attended events this year, it’s been great getting to know all of you and I hope you will stay in touch! It’s been an unusual year for events but I think we managed to have some fun and connect over the screen quite a bit.

Although there is an blog post written about frost week by my AVP Social, Brianna Arundine I just wanted to touch on how happy I was to see so many new faces at the events. We had some great engagement and it was a really nice way to start off the semester.

Academic Events

This semester we had the remaining program mixers that did not happen in first semester. Theses mixers consisted of alumni that had graduated from the program coming back to talk to students about the career they have pursued from their degree and the steps they took to get there. It was great to see recent alumni back on zoom calls with students!

Social Events

This semester we focused on having events that could be exclusive to this year such as our Virtual Met Museum Tour, Cooking Class, Wes Hall “Racism is our Pandemic” Talk and Q&A, Tyler Cameron: Bachelor Finale, Couch Concert and Huron Day Challenges. The events portfolio wanted to take advantage of opportunities that were being offered because of our online environment. Along with the exclusive events we also hosted our normal events throughout second semester to keep some consistency.

Huron Day

Thank you to everyone that participate in the Huron Day events and social media challenges! It was great to see so many faces and feel the presence of the Huron Community.

Thank you to everyone that has been reading these posts to get updates all year. Please keep reading these to see what Dakshina will be up to this upcoming year, I’ve heard a lot of her ideas through turnover and they sound amazing! Huron has really lucked out with having her as out next VPSE so please wish her luck and give her all of the support that you have given me this year. As I’m signing off as your Vice President of Student Events for this year please keep in touch and send me a message if you ever want to chat about anything!
