Speaker Portfolio
The Speaker serves as a vital bridge between the HUCSC Executive Branch and the General Assembly. Elected internally by the previous year’s General Assembly, the Speaker is a student leader chosen for their fairness, integrity, and commitment to open dialogue.
Tasked with facilitating productive discussion and consensus-building, the Speaker presides over General Assembly meetings while remaining strictly impartial. This neutrality ensures that all voices—whether executive or representative—are heard equally and respectfully. By maintaining this balance, the Speaker helps foster a collaborative and transparent student government.
Note: While the Speaker is elected by members of the previous year’s General Assembly, the process is overseen by the Chief Returning Officer (CRO)—an impartial official responsible for ensuring all HUCSC elections and internal appointments are fair, transparent, and democratic.

General Assembly
The General Assembly (GA) is the representative body of the HUCSC, made up of students elected to advocate on behalf of their academic and social constituencies. As the primary voice of the student body, General Assembly members are responsible for bringing forward student concerns, proposing initiatives, and voting on matters that shape the direction of student governance at Huron.
In addition to advocacy, the General Assembly plays an essential oversight role—holding the Executive Branch accountable and ensuring that student leadership remains transparent, effective, and in touch with the needs of the community.
Through open dialogue, informed debate, and collective decision-making, the GA helps uphold the values of democratic student governance at Huron.

WHAT IS THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY?
The General Assembly (GA) is the main decision-making body of the Huron University College Student Council (HUCSC). It’s made up of elected student representatives from each program and year, who meet regularly to discuss, debate, and vote on issues that impact student life at Huron.
From approving budgets to proposing new initiatives and shaping campus policies, the GA gives students a direct voice in how their university experience is shaped. It’s where your concerns are heard, your ideas are brought forward, and real change begins.
Whether it’s academics, student wellness, campus events, or equity and inclusion, your reps in the General Assembly are there to advocate for you.
