Scholarships and Awards
Each year, the Huron University College Students' Council proudly recognizes students who go above and beyond in their commitment to leadership, community building, and service to their peers. Our scholarships and awards celebrate the people who make Huron a better place, often without expecting anything in return.
These awards are open to HUCSC members and volunteers who demonstrate passion, initiative, and an outstanding contribution to student life.
Unsung Leader Award
The Unsung Leader Award is HUCSC’s highest individual honour, awarded annually to a student who has made a significant impact behind the scenes.
This award recognizes a student whose work may not always be in the spotlight, but whose dedication, attitude, and service to the Huron community are undeniable. They lead by example, support their peers, and consistently go above and beyond in their role—without seeking recognition.
Value: $1000
Timeline: Nominations open September 10th - October 3rd 2025.
Eligibility Criteria:
Nominee must be a Huron student and be taking at least 60% of their total courses at Huron.
Nominee must be in 2nd year or above.
Nominee must not have been recognized with more than two other awards during their time at Huron (and note that a student cannot receive this award more than once).

Launched in 2024 through the HUCSC, the Pay It Forward Award was created to recognize the students who make a meaningful difference in the Huron community through kindness, service, and compassion. This award celebrates those who don’t seek recognition but consistently uplift others, volunteer their time, and create a culture of care on campus. By highlighting these students, the HUCSC hopes to inspire others to give back and continue building a community rooted in empathy and generosity.
Value: $1,000 (two awards)
Eligibility: Applicants must be full time Huron students with preference given to those who participate in Pay it Forward initiatives.
Timeline: Applications are open from Feb 23 - Mar 8, 2026.

The Need-Based Scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need and a strong commitment to their studies. This scholarship is designed to provide support to those who require additional assistance in continuing their academic journey, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of their success.
Value: $1,000 × 4 awards
Eligibility: Applicants must be full time Huron students who can demonstrate financial need.

To support undergraduate students near the end of their undergraduate studies the HUSCS is aiming to support students continuing their studies through the brand new HUCSC Continuing Studies Scholarships.
Value: $1,000
Eligibility: Applicants must be current undergraduate student in their final year looking to attend post undergraduate studies in either a masters or graduate program.

The International Impact Award aims to recognize international students who are elevating their own communities and the broader campus community through leadership, initiative, and meaningful engagement.
Value: $1,000
Eligibility: Applicants must be full time Huron international students.

The Student Athlete Award recognizes an individual who has maintained strong academic standing and leadership while participating heavily in athletics.
Value: $500
Eligibility: Applicants must be full time Huron students who demonstrates outstanding leadership, strong academic achievement, and athletic performance.

The Environmental Impact Award recognizes a student who is leading the charge in fostering environmental responsibility at Huron. Through community cleanups and climate awareness, campus-wide activism or green initiatives, this full-time undergraduate student is making environmental action a part of Huron's everyday life. Awardees should show how they have established enduring, visible change and inspired others to get involved.
Value: $500 (2 awards)
Eligibility: Applicants must be full time Huron students who can demonstrate their impact on sustainability initiatives.

The Artistic Impact Award recognizes a full-time Huron student whose creative work has enriched campus life. This student uses art to foster community, self-reflection, and connection through painting, photography, music, dance, writing, spoken word, or any other means of creative expression. The nominations should touch on the student's impact on the campus culture, creativity of the work, and commitment to the craft.
Value: $500 (2 awards)
Eligibility: Applicants must be full time Huron students who can demonstrate their artistic contributions to the community.
Timeline: Applications are open from Feb 23 - Mar 8, 2023.
Internal Awards
Each spring, HUCSC also recognizes outstanding members of our team at the Commissioner and General Assembly Representative levels.
These awards are given to individuals who have:
Demonstrated consistent excellence in their roles
Brought forward innovative ideas or impactful initiatives
Shown strong leadership, communication, and teamwork
Contributed meaningfully to council culture and operations
Award winners are selected based on performance reviews, peer nominations, and input from the HUCSC Executive team.

This award celebrates a GA Representative who has gone above and beyond to speak out on behalf of their peers, demonstrating what authentic and integrity-led leadership is. Nominees must demonstrate significant engagement in their community and outstanding commitment to hearing and furthering student voices within and outside of HUCSC. Nominations must be approved by one other fellow GA Representative and a constituent student belonging to the representative's respective group.
Value: $500 (2 awards)
Eligibility: Applicants must be members of the current general assembly.
Timeline: Applications are open from Feb 23 - Mar 8, 2026.

Awarded to a Commissioner in the HUCSC who has shown initiative, creativity, and a strong work ethic in advancing their portfolio's goals. This student goes above and beyond to make ideas happen and leave a visible difference in their team. Nominees must be full-time Huron students and have their application signed off by their immediate HUCSC supervisor (Associate, Coordinator, or Executive).
Value: $550 (2 awards)
Eligibility: Applicants must be full time Huron students currently working at the Commissioner level in the HUCSC. Applicants must be endorsed by their supervisor.
Timeline: Applications are open from Feb 23 - Mar 8, 2026.
