Huron University Students’ Council (HUCSC)
HUCSC is comprised of the Executive, the General Assembly, and the Hired Portfolios, with over 75 members serving every student at Huron College. HUCSC members advocate student issues, concerns and priorities to Huron administrators, faculty and staff on behalf of students.
The HUCSC provides comprehensive social and academic events and programming, as well as services such as Clubs, Intramurals and The Beaver Dam. Additionally, HUCSC strives to provide meaningful involvement, volunteer and development opportunities for all students, as well as offer resources from textbook drives to Tax Clinics.

The Executives
President

The official representative of HUCSC is responsible for providing the strategic direction of the council and overseeing each portfolio, as well as representing the student body to partners and stakeholders, including Huron's administration, various external student councils and societies, municipal, and more.
VP Finance and Administration

Oversees HUCSC budgeting and effective management of all financial and corporate resources, such as the Beaver Dam, Clubs, and the HUCSC Merchandise.

Responsible for recognizing, receiving, and advocating for academic, career, social, and cultural concerns on behalf of the student body, as well as publishing two policy papers per year to address student concerns.
VP Events

Responsible for creating events for the student body to enhance the student experience. The events portfolio plans and executes various events on campus, such as Clubs Week, the annual Huron Ball, and social and academic mixers.
VP Communications

Works on all the branding and marketing strategies for the HUCSC, the management of all council social media platforms, and communicates HUCSC events, news, and resources to the student body.
The Speaker of The General Assembly

The Speaker of the General Assembly (GA) is an internally elected paid position. The Speaker is responsible for facilitating meetings by maintaining order, guiding discussions, and ensuring that all members of the GA have an equal opportunity to speak. They uphold the rules of procedure and help the assembly run smoothly and fairly by acting as a neutral third party. The speaker oversees the governance portfolio and trains incoming GA representatives on the ins and outs of their roles and responsibilities.
The Hired Portfolio
Two rounds of hiring occur per year: spring (end of the second semester, prior to summer) and fall (start of the first semester in the new year). Hiring processes and job descriptions are posted on the myhuron.ca website under “Student Opportunities” and promoted on our various social media platforms.
Presidential:
Associate to the President: The Associate to the President will act as an assistant to the President in carrying out tasks and initiatives. The Associate will be responsible for large projects and will be given autonomy to leave an impact on their work. The Associate may also prepare the President for meetings and speeches on occasion.
Executive Secretary: The Secretary is responsible for recording the minutes of every HUCSC General Assembly Meeting, ensuring there is an extensive and coherent record of each meeting of the HUCSC available to the public. This position is also responsible for the physical office space, and the ‘Office Hours’ program. The Executive Secretary is NOT an executive of the HUCSC; however, they do sit in on executive meetings to take minutes.
Deputy Secretary: The Deputy Secretary will report to the President and also act as an assistant to the Executive Secretary helping them carry out logistical day to day tasks. The position entails assuming delegated responsibilities for ensuring the optimal functioning of the Presidential Portfolio. This role requires a strong commitment to efficiency and proficiency in managing diverse tasks.
Student Events:
Associate Social Events: To assist the VP Student Events in planning various social campaigns and events throughout the academic year, prioritizing the implementation of diverse and well-conceived programming for the Huron student body.
Associate Academic Events: To assist the VP Student Events in planning various academic campaigns and events throughout the academic year, prioritizing the implementation of diverse and well-conceived programming for the Huron student body.
Huron Ball and Graduation Banquet Coordinators (2): With assistance from the VP Student Events, will oversee the planning and execution of the Huron Ball and Graduation Banquet, the largest formal events at Huron.
Community Engagement Coordinator: With assistance from the VP Student Events, the Community Engagement Coordinator will oversee the planning and execution of multiple engaging and impactful events throughout the academic year. They will lead the development of the vibrant, connected, and impact-driven experience at Huron. This role is responsible for planning and executing a diverse portfolio of events that boost student spirit and engagement, strengthen community, and generate meaningful support for charitable initiatives. These events will aim to strengthen our community and engagement at Huron while raising funds and awareness for selected charitable initiatives.
Social Events Commissioner (3): Work with the VP Student Events to develop and execute new and existing social events for the Huron student body during the 2025/2026 academic year. This will include events such as the Blue Jays game, bar nights, apple & pumpkin picking, HK events, and more.
Academic Programming Commissioner (3): Work with the VP Student Events to develop and execute new and existing events that promote the academic success of Huron students and/or encourage the pursuit of knowledge, scholarly or otherwise. This will include developing a speaker series, organizing team-building faculty mixers, and creating events that connect students to the resources needed to succeed in the classroom.
HK Relay for Life Chairs (2): To assist the VP Student Events’ from Huron and Kings, to host HK Relay4Life events throughout the year, in specific the overall relay hosted at Kings' campus. This position will include working directly with the Canadian Cancer Society, brainstorming and executing fundraising tactics, and planning events.
Student Affairs:
Student Affairs Associate: The Student Affairs Associate will act as an assistant to the Vice President Student Affairs (VPSA). The Associate will help conduct independent research, support the Feedback Coordinator in conducting feedback from Huron’s student body, and assist with various administrative tasks.
Wellness Associate: The Wellness Associate will be responsible for mental health & wellbeing advocacy on campus. Responsibilities will include leading a team of wellness commissioners, communicating and collaborating with the Huron Wellness team, collecting feedback from the student body, and creating mental health resources for students.
Equity Associate: The Equity Associate will be responsible for equity-related advocacy on campus. Responsibilities will include leading a team of equity commissioners, communicating and collaborating with administration on equity-related matters, collecting feedback from the student body, and creating support and resources for students.
Student Feedback Coordinator: The Student Feedback Commissioner will work with the VPSA and Student Affairs Associate to compile feedback from students regarding all matters of student life. The coordinator will work closely with many of the other positions in the Student Affairs portfolio to determine the proper course of action to alleviate student concerns.
Academic Research Commissioner: The Academic Commissioner will develop and organize initiatives and resources in collaboration with the VPSA and Student Affairs Associate to support students’ academic success and self-advocacy.
Equity Commissioner: The Equity commissioners will work with the VPSA and Equity Associate to conduct research and implement programming from an intersectional lens to support equity-denied groups on campus (ie. LGBTQIA+ students, BIPOC, women and gender oppressed people, disabled students, religious and ethnic groups).
Wellness Commissioner: The Wellness Commissioner will work with the VP Student Affairs and Wellness Associate to improve mental health resources and initiatives on campus. The commissioners will also run programming to increase awareness of said resources among Huron students.
Sustainability Commissioner (2): The Sustainability Commissioner will assist the VPSA and Student Affairs Associate to develop, organize, and manage HUCSC sustainability initiatives.
Finance:
Finance and Administration Associate: This Associate will act as an assistant to the VP Finance ensuring efficient and effective operation of the portfolio. This relates to HUCSC operations overseen by the portfolio, including but not limited to: Beaver Dam operations, merchandise, club & association finances, standing committees, and general budgeting.
Merchandise Associate: The Merchandise Associate is responsible for overseeing the operations of the HUCSC merchandise: acting first and foremost as a resource to the student body, while also ensuring all operations are maintained. Expertise with regards to e-commerce, merchandise design, and order processing is expected. This individual will be fundamental in facilitating ongoing involvement from the VP Finance.
Clubs Associate/AVP Clubs: The Clubs Associate is responsible for overseeing the operations of the HUCSC Clubs Portfolio. Coordinating with clubs executives to complete mid and end-of-year reports, acting as a resource to clubs on an ongoing basis and ensuring club operations run smoothly. Additionally, scheduling and facilitating Clubs Governance Committee (CGC) meetings.
Clubs Coordinator: The Clubs Coordinator supports the operations of the HUCSC Clubs Portfolio by assisting with administrative and logistical tasks. This includes coordinating with club executives to collect mid-year and end-of-year reports, serving as a resource for clubs throughout the year, and helping ensure that club operations proceed efficiently. The Clubs Coordinator also works closely with the Clubs Associate and other team members to maintain effective communication and support across the clubs system.
Beaver Dam Bartender (12): To assist the VP Finance & Administration and Beaver Dam manager in ensuring the proper opening and closing of the Beaver Dam each day as well as, serving patrons food, drink (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) and merchandise responsibly.
Communications:
AVP Design and Branding: As the AVP of Design and Branding, you will serve as the creative strategist and visual authority for all HUCSC design and branding initiatives. You will be responsible for shaping and elevating the council’s visual identity across all platforms, ensuring a cohesive, professional, and engaging presence.
This role requires a strong visual eye and the ability to translate ideas into clear, engaging, and high-quality content across platforms. You will lead how HUCSC presents itself visually by developing distinct styles, directing campaign aesthetics, and ensuring that all materials are cohesive, intentional, and aligned with the council’s goals.
AVP Publications and Website: As the AVP of Publications and Website, you will serve as the creative and editorial lead for all written and long-form digital content within HUCSC. You will be responsible for shaping the voice, tone, and direction of publications while ensuring all materials are engaging, polished, and aligned with the council’s communications strategy.
This role oversees the development of key platforms including the weekly newsletter, yearbook, website, blog, and long-form feature content.
AVP Photo and Video: As the AVP of Video and Photo, you will serve as the lead creative for camera captured visual media and on campus promotions, directing how HUCSC is captured and presented across platforms. You will oversee a team while remaining hands-on in content creation, using your eye for trends and engaging storytelling to produce high-quality, impactful photo and video content.
Social Media Coordinator: The Social Media Design Coordinator will support the AVP Design and Branding in executing the visual direction of HUCSC’s social media presence. This role is focused exclusively on the design and production of social media content, ensuring all graphics align with the council’s brand identity and creative strategy.
Social Media Design Commissioner: The Social Media Design Commissioner will support the Social Media Design Coordinator and AVP Design and Branding in producing high-quality, visually engaging content for HUCSC’s social media platforms. This role focuses on assisting in the design and execution of social media visuals while developing creative and technical skills in a collaborative environment.
Graphic Designer: The Graphic Designer will support the AVP Design and Branding in creating high-quality illustrative visual content primarily for print, including posters, flyers, merchandise, and promotional materials. This role focuses on translating HUCSC’s brand identity into visually compelling physical media while maintaining strong design standards and consistency.
They will contribute creative ideas, explore different design styles, and produce polished assets that support events and initiatives.
Publication Coordinator: The Publications Coordinator will be working with the VP Communications and AVP Publications to help produce a weekly HUCSC newsletter, MyHuron blog, and an annual yearbook. They will work towards setting templates and consistent branding for the newsletter and yearbook that will be used throughout the year. The coordinators will ensure effective event promotion in the weekly newsletter and attractive recounting of past events occurs. They will assist the AVP in the creation and compilation of content for the yearbook which will be sold to the graduating class at the end of the academic year and work towards putting in informative and engaging content with the team on all aspects of life as a Huron student life.
Beaver Dam Coordinator: The Coordinator will take primary charge of all promotion and social media content related to The Beaver Dam. The Coordinator will be responsible for executing content that aligns with an overarching branding and marketing strategy to support the success of Beaver Dam initiatives (@thebeaverdam). This role is highly creative and collaborative, with a focus on content production, brand consistency, and audience engagement.
Website Coordinator: The Website Coordinator will be responsible for updating and maintaining the HUCSC website (myhuron.ca). Throughout the academic year, they will be responsible for maintaining the website and updating information for students to keep up with upcoming events and activities. The Coordinator will be responsible for managing photos on the website, creating posting schedules, gathering content, and editing when required. Applicants should have an understanding of successful branding and efficient communication in order to make the website as effective as possible. They will work directly with the VP Communications and at times numerous members of the HUCSC and broader Huron community.
Video Coordinator: The Video Coordinator will report to the AVP Video and Photo to produce video content for the student body throughout the year. This will include video content of events, day-to-day Huron content, and planned segments/initiatives. The Video Coordinator will also assist with other video-content initiatives where needed, such as advocacy content, operations updates, etc. The Video Coordinator will be working with other members of the Communications portfolio such as the Hype Team where collaboration is needed.
Photographers (3): The Photographers will support the AVP Video and Photo in capturing high-quality, dynamic photography that represents HUCSC events, initiatives, and student life. This role focuses on producing visually strong, storytelling-driven images that enhance HUCSC’s presence across digital platforms and promotional materials.
Photographers are expected to take initiative during events, identify compelling moments, and contribute creative direction to ensure content is engaging, polished, and aligned with HUCSC’s visual standards.
Hype Team Members (2): Acting as a liaison between the council and student body, the HUCSC Hype Team is a group of students with diverse interests and backgrounds who work to increase engagement within the Huron community. Working as a Hype Team member is both a creative and interactive role. However, experience in these areas is not required; enthusiasm, openness, and the ability to communicate and socialize are the ideal traits for candidates.
Boris the Beaver Mascot: The Boris the Beaver Mascot plays a key role in representing the HUCSC brand at events and across content initiatives. This role focuses on bringing energy, school spirit, and engagement to the student experience while maintaining the identity and integrity of the mascot.
Governance/Speaker Portfolio:
Governance Coordinator: The Governance Coordinator will be a resource for all members of council, being available to consult on policy and governance matters. The Coordinator will work with councilors to craft, amend and update policy.
Chief Returning Officer: The Chief Returning Officer (CRO) is responsible for overseeing and administering the student council’s election processes, ensuring they run fairly, transparently, and in accordance with council policies. The CRO manages nomination procedures, organizes candidate meetings, resolves election-related grievances, and moderates debates.
Deputy Returning Officer: The Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) is responsible for assisting the Chief
Returning Officer in administering the HUCSC elections during the election periods throughout the academic year in accordance with the HUCSC Elections Policy. Duties will be delegated at the discretion of the CRO.
Deputy Speaker: The Deputy Speaker assists the Speaker with various administrative and meeting-related tasks, steps in for the Speaker when they’re absent, and helps ensure the smooth running of council activities. This role requires strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
The General Assembly
The General Assembly (GA) is comprised of both voting and non-voting resource members. Collectively, the GA represents the student body through passing motions regarding HUCSC policies and operations. Members provide direction and insight on HUCSC initiatives, meet with students and faculty to address students’ needs, and sit on standing committees.
Members of the GA sit on standing committees, which guide HUCSC's decision-making. These standing committees include: Clubs Governance Committee, Elections Committee, Finance Standing Committee, Governance Standing Committee, Disciplinary Committee, and Advocacy Committee.
In addition to these committees, GA members meet monthly on Sunday during General Assembly Meetings. GA Meetings are open to the public unless otherwise stated. To ensure transparency and accountability, meeting minutes can be found on the myhuron.ca website, under “My Reps”.
