Volunteering Clubs

Volunteering clubs at Huron are a great way to give back while getting involved! These student-led groups create opportunities to support meaningful causes, build connections, and make a difference on and off campus. And you don’t need prior experience—volunteering clubs are open to everyone and are an amazing way to meet people, grow your skills, and leave a positive impact on your community.

Huron Lends a Hand is all about giving back to the community! From their annual Fall Park Clean-Up (pictured) to other service projects, the club creates opportunities for students to make a positive impact together.

  • Huron Lends a Hand (HLH) aims to cultivate Huron/Western students who have a vision to aid unprivileged individuals in the London community, but we’re not your typical charity club. At HLH, rather than donating fundraised money to established foundations, we provide students with the tools to personally execute charitable initiatives. Through community service and philanthropic work, we strive to make positive change through the work of volunteers. Join us in making a difference from a student’s perspective!

    Volunteer YA! is one of a few volunteering clubs at Huron, dedicated to supporting the London community. It provides students with opportunities to volunteer from campus and provide donations, as they learn about concerns and charitable organizations in the city. We cater towards Huron students and the wider local community, aiming to get students more involved off-campus. Our Valentine’s Day - Cookies and Cards event is our most popular, as we have collaborated with other volunteering clubs to encourage students to thoughtfully and creatively engage with the community, giving back to those in need during a holiday.

  • The purpose of Huron For the Elderly is to provide Huron students with the unique opportunity to give back to the elderly community in London by offering them a sense of community and belonging that they often lack. Many elderly individuals in long-term care homes experience loneliness and social isolation, especially as visitation from family and friends becomes less frequent. Huron For the Elderly seeks to bridge this gap by bringing the energy, compassion, and presence of students to those who need it most.

    Our club's initiative is designed to combat the emotional and physical toll that loneliness can take on individuals in long-term care homes. Research has shown that social isolation can lead to a decline in mental health, increased anxiety, depression, and even a deterioration in physical well-being. By providing consistent companionship, engaging in meaningful conversations, sharing stories, and participating in interactive activities, we aim to uplift the spirits of the elderly while also fostering intergenerational connections
