March Advocacy Updates

  • The Indigenous Initiatives Committee has created custom graduation stoles that include their new logo for Indigenous students.

  • The Teaching and Learning Committee has completed two surveys on AI, one collecting data from students and one from faculty. We recommended to FASS that a policy on faculty use of AI should be created using these results.

  • Huron’s government funding has been adjusted, rising from 9% to approximately 15%.

  • Tuition has been increased for incoming students, 2% for FASS students and 7.5% for BMOS students.

  • There has been a fee increase for incoming students. Students will now be charged an affiliate fee, previously paid to Western by Huron. This fee is $1,371.00, a further breakdown of student fees can be found at: https://huronu.ca/student-life/money-matters/student-fees/

  • In consultation with the HUCSC, Huron has committed waiving this fee for students on OSAP and creating a bursary for students who may be negatively affected by the increase.
